Becoming a licensed venue

You can apply to the Manchester Register Office to join us and become a licensed venue for civil partnership and marriage ceremonies.

We’re happy to consider any suitable premises in Manchester. When we receive your enquiry, we’ll organise a site visit and a registrar will view the space and have a chat with you. Then, we’ll make an assessment to consider access and safety, and to check the licensing criteria is met.

The application must be publicised for 21 days to give members of the public time to let us know if they have any objections. If successful, you’ll get confirmation of approval, and you can pay the licence fee online. Once your listing is live, couples can make enquiries and you can take bookings.

Links to public notices for current applications received by the Manchester Registration Service and information on how to make an objection can be found here. If you make an application, you can advertise it on this website or in a local newspaper, as long as it’s published at least once a week.

There are two types of application: Non-religious buildings & Religious buildings and places of worship.
